It was an exciting arrival as we walked up the street and saw this towering crane at the lot.

The crane operator reading and his dog resting between operations.

They had to close the road for the day.
The crane arm extended up 110 feet. (Notice - no fog in the air!)

Jose and helper preparing the steel cages for the pier holes. The cages are made to the various depths of the individule pier holes, and were put together off-site.
A cage being aligned over a pier hole.
Plastic wheels are attached to the cages to help center the cages. The redwoods behind.
Three more wheels on the lower end of the cage.
Guiding the cage into the hole.
Ditto.
The board keeps the cage from going all the way in, because 6-foot sections of steel bar need to be tied to the tops of the cages. The 6-foot sections will be bent to connect to the grade beams in the next phase.
Cage in place.
The numbers on the plywood indicate the depth of the hole, so it's clear which cage goes in which hole. This one is 23 feet deep.
All cages in place.
The 3 piers for the retaining wall at the lower left corner of the lot. A neighbor's house below.
Who's this?
The truck is packed up.
The following day, the rebar was attached to the cages, the cages lowered into the holes, and the cement poured.
The lot is ready for the next phase (grade beams).
The workers started shaping the lot with this.
